Terms of Use

Last updated: January 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Landfall (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Landfall is a regulatory compliance management platform that provides:

  • Structured interpretations of the regulations and standards in our corpus
  • Implementation patterns and code examples
  • Cross-regulation mapping and harmonization analysis
  • Project management tools for compliance tracking

3. What This Service Is NOT

UNDERSTANDING THESE BOUNDARIES IS ESSENTIAL BEFORE USING THIS SERVICE.

This Service Is NOT
  • NOT Legal Advice: Our interpretations are informational analysis, not legal counsel. No attorney-client relationship is created. Always consult qualified legal professionals for compliance decisions.
  • NOT a Risk Score: We do not calculate, quantify, or certify your compliance risk level. No numerical ratings, percentages, or safety scores are provided.
  • NOT Runtime Enforcement: This is a planning and mapping tool, not a runtime system. It does not integrate with, monitor, or enforce compliance in your production environment.
  • NOT Regulatory Approval: Using this tool does not mean you are compliant. Regulators evaluate your actual implementation, not your use of compliance tools.
  • NOT Authoritative Interpretation: Only regulators and courts provide binding interpretation. Our analysis may be incomplete, incorrect, or differ from official guidance.
  • NOT a Safe Harbor: This tool does not shield you from enforcement actions or liability. Compliance is your organization's responsibility.

For detailed information about product boundaries, see our Methodology page.

4. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Verifying the applicability of any regulatory interpretation to your specific circumstances
  • Making your own compliance decisions in consultation with appropriate legal and compliance professionals
  • Keeping your account credentials secure and notifying us of any unauthorized access
  • Using the Service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

5. Accuracy and Updates

While we strive to maintain accurate and up-to-date information, regulations change frequently. We make no warranties that:

  • Our interpretations are complete or error-free
  • The Service will be uninterrupted or available at all times
  • Our database reflects the most recent regulatory changes

You should independently verify any information before relying on it for compliance purposes.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REG-TO-BACKLOG AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Regulatory fines or penalties
  • Loss of profits or business opportunities
  • Costs of compliance remediation
  • Legal fees or expenses

ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR RELIANCE ON ANY INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THE SERVICE.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Landfall and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including our regulatory interpretations, obligation mappings, implementation patterns, and underlying methodology, is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

Your Data Remains Yours

All data you create, upload, or input into the Service remains your exclusive property. This includes but is not limited to:

  • No Competitive Use: We will never use insights from your data to develop competing products or services, or to derive competitive intelligence about your business.
  • Anonymized Aggregates Only: Cross-customer analytics (e.g., showing how commonly a regulation is applied) require a minimum of 5 contributing projects and are fully anonymized to prevent identification of any individual customer.

8.4 Third-Party AI Processing

The Service uses Anthropic's Claude API for AI-assisted interpretation. Data sent to this API is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Per Anthropic's API terms:

  • API data is not used to train Anthropic's models

When you connect GitHub to the Service:

  • We request read-only access to repository metadata (names, branches)
  • We never clone, download, or store your source code
  • PR/commit links are stored as references only, not code content
